What is a conversion experience?

The most popular conversion experience is in my mind St. Paul, who persecuted Christian believers who were Jews. He was out for blood, literally, until he was struck blind while on the way to Damascus to get blood. In the Light of Truth, he asked Who it was who was speaking to Him as he heard, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" "Who are you, lord?" Paul (Saul) asked! "I am (AM) Jesus whom you are persecuting."

If that happened to me, I think I would re-think my values, my whole life.

Jesus had already died, risen from the dead, and ascended to Heaven at the time of this happening. Jesus was 'being persecuted' still, although He was already seated "at the right-hand of God."

Catholics see from this that Christ still mystically suffers for the sins of mankind, eve though the price of our salvation has been paid in the blood of Our Lord. When we suffer now, as Christians, and offer ourselves as a 'sacrifice' for sin, like Jesus, we share in the Divine Mystery.
