How can i reduce PDF size to under 500KB

Uncheck "preserve photoshop editing capabilities"
Then, under compression, you can tweak to your heart's content to adjust the file size. Remember that you are balancing print quality with size here. If this is not intended to be printed then you have a lot more leeway.
I don't see the option "preserve photoshop editing capabilities". I'm using Photoshop CS4
The reason your original zooms so well, is that it contains vector text. That not only displays cleaner, it is also much smaller in a file.
For future reference, if it's something you create in photoshop, in the save options make sure you export vectors and fonts. That will prevent them from being rasterized.
